An Abridged Story of Willard J. Hurst
Mr. Hurst was a United States Soldier who served in France against German forces during World War I.
His story retold by his granddaughter.
Of note in the recording, when the grandfather told the story of a "cannonball," it was very unlikely to be the stereotypical round cannonball that most people think of. It was more likely something that looks like an abnormally large modern day bullet.
The back side of the cigarette box.
A shaving set with handwritten locations and dates where Mr. Hurst served.
Here we can see some wearables, a copy of the New Testament given to Mr. Hurst by Red Cross workers while he was at Pneu Chateaux in France, a copy of the Lockport, NY newspaper showing Willard J. Hurst's father who was an alderman in the fourth ward (with a bit of a drinking problem), and other possessions including a Smileage Book.
